On October 5, 2013, at the Annual Exhibition of the Society of Animal Artists, Rocket Man won both the Evelyn and Peter Haller Memorial Award for Sculpture and the Award of Excellence. Rocket Man is also chosen to be part of the Society's national museum tour, Art and the Animal (see events for dates and locations).
The feeling I wished to come across in my sculpture, Rocket Man, is sheer joy. Rocket Man was modeled after my own dog, Rocky, who is a mixed breed. We took in his mother right before she had six puppies and found great homes for his mother and five siblings about three years ago now. Rocky belonged with us, so he stayed! He has added so much laughter (he's a character) to our lives and I hope that comes through in my sculpture.
